Trash removal consolidation

Merchantville is part of a joint bid request by Cherry Hill and Gloucester Township after seeking to pool resources with its neighbors for years. Gloucester Township and Cherry Hill are serviced by Republic Services Inc. and Merchantville residents are served by municipal public works employees. Mayor Frank North noted that entering private services may result in layoffs in the public works department, but he did not specify a number. Cherry Hill advertised the bid process on 10/11/10. The submitted bids will be opened and read on 12/14/10.
