Grandfather of John and Kathleen O’Donnell; Stephanie, Gina and Monica Gerace; Brian, Michelle and Stephen Curreri; Christopher, Jennifer and Julianne Curreri; Giovanni Ciro; Christina, Nicholas and Gianna Curreri.
Dr. Curreri was raised in West Collingswood. He graduated from Collingswood High School and was a member of Brooks Irvine’s football team. As a Colls student, he was a hard running, hard hitting two-way performer for the minions of Coach Irvine. He was a reserve on the championship unit of 1942 and then spent two years as a regular. He also lettered for two years in track and field.
Curreri, often known as “Jake” during his high school days, served for three decades as the team physician for Collingswood’s gridiron squads. He was inducted into the Collingswood Football Hall of Fame. He served in the US ARMY during World War II. He graduated from Philadelphia College Of Osteopathic Medicine.
His viewing and family visitation will be 7 to 9 pm Monday evening at The Stephenson-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ, and again beginning 9 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. His Mass in celebration of his life will 10 am Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church, 43 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ. Internment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
