The Merchantville and Pennsauken OEM teams met today to finalize local plans for Hurricane Irene. The Emergency Management Center at 8790 Park Avenue will be activated at 9:00 p.m. tonight. The OEM team is equipped with all the communication systems and vehicles necessary to handle emergency response. Residents are cautioned to shelter at their homes first. If non-emergency evacuation is needed call 856-662-0500 or 856-662- 0507 to request transport by the emergency response team. If emergency evacuation is needed call 911. Three (3) staging centers have been designated for evacuation pick-ups the two towns: Merchantville Elementary School, St. Cecelia’s School and Carson School. All residents needing to be evacuated will be transported from these 3 staging centers to the evacuation shelter at Pennsauken Intermediate School. No pets will be permitted in the shelter. DO NOT DRIVE TO THE EVACUATION SHELTER – CALL FOR EVACUATION ASSISTANCE.
