A field fit more for a tractor pull than for football will get a makeover courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles, Camden Public Schools officials announced over the weekend.
The Camden High School Panthers are the recipients of a $200,000 grant to replace the dilapidated grass field with synthetic turf. The announcement came during Sunday’s Eagles loss to the New England Patriots.
“It’s a beautiful thing for the city,” said Camden High football coach Durwin Pearson. “I’m so happy. It’s overdue.”
The funds are part of the 2011 National Football League Grassroots Program — a partnership between the NFL Youth Football Fund and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. The LISC identifies agencies that aim to help communities transform distressed neighborhoods. http://on.cpsj.com/uhykx3
