Trinity United Methodist Church in Merchantville will host an exciting and varied music program on Sunday, April 22, and invites all music lovers to attend. The 4 p.m. program will take place in the church’s historic 117-year-old-sanctuary and bring together vocalists, organists, harpists and a brass ensemble whose members are part of the Philadelphia Brigade Band, a 20-member Civil War era brass band. The program will include a mix of show tunes, 19th Century ballads, classical pieces and sacred selections.
In addition to the brass ensemble, performers will include baritone Brandon Gaines, who is Music Director at Trinity, and Kevin Radtke, a graduate of Westminster Choir College who specializes in character tenor roles and music of the Baroque and Classical periods.
Four organists, including Trinity organist Helen Carrell, will play selections that showcase Trinity’s highly regarded pipe organ. First installed in 1899, the organ has been expanded twice in the 113 years since then and today has three keyboards with a total of 34 ranks.
Carrell, who also is a harpist, will be joined by Debora Trowbridge in playing harp duets. The Trinity Choir will also perform.
The church is located at the corner of Chapel and Maple Avenues in Merchantville. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit a fund that is being used to pay for repairs to the church’s air conditioning system.
