On January 17, 2012, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed bill S-3146 that gives communities the option of moving the annual election of school board members to November. At the January 24, 2012 board meeting, the Merchantville Board of Education passed a resolution moving the election of school board members to the general election in November. In accordance with recent enacted
legislation, by moving the school board elections to November, the proposed base school budget will no longer be placed on the ballot. The board’s annual reorganization meeting will now take place at the board’s first meeting in January 2013. The members of the Merchantville Board of Education whose terms would have expired by May 1, 2012 will continue to serve in office until the January 2013 reorganization meeting.
