Dog Licenses must be obtained annually in the month of January. Fees: Spayed/Neutered $9.00; Unspayed/unneutered: $12.00. Late Fees: After March 31, 2012 the late fee is $10.00 in addition to the original cost. After June 30, 2012 the late fee is $15.00 in addition to the original cost.
After September 30, 2012 the late fee is $20.00 in addition to the original cost. Licensing Age: All dogs over 7 months.
§ 21-4. Date for obtaining licenses; fees. [Amended 10-27-1952; 9-12-1966; 2-10-1986; 12-27-2005]
A. Any person who owns a dog that has reached licensing age shall annually in the month of January obtain a license and official metal registration tag for each dog so owned.
B. The owner of a newly acquired dog of licensing age or of any dog which attains licensing age shall make application for the license and registration tag for such dog within 10 days after such acquisition or age attainment.
C. Any person who brings or causes to be brought into the Borough any dog licensed in another state for the current year and bearing a registration tag for such dog, who shall keep the same or permit the dog to be kept within the Borough for a period of more than 90 days, shall immediately upon the conclusion of said 90 day period apply for a license and registration tag for such dog.
D. Any person bringing or causing to be brought into the Borough any unlicensed dog and who shall permit the dog to remain in the Borough for a period of more than 10 days shall immediately apply for a license and registration tag for such dog upon conclusion of said 10 day period.
E. Dogs used as guide dogs for blind persons and commonly know as “Seeing Eye” dogs, dogs used to assist handicapped persons and commonly known as “service dogs” or dogs used to assist deaf persons and commonly known as “hearing ear dogs” shall be licensed and registered as other dogs, herein provided for, except that the owner or keeper of such dog shall not be required to pay any fee.
F. The fee for issuance of a dog license and each renewal thereof shall be $9.00 for spayed or neutered dogs and $12.00 for unspayed or nonneutered dogs, which fees shall include the fee for the registration tag. (Effective January 1, 2007 per Ord. No. 05-18)
G. Late application. Whenever an application for the issuance of a dog license or a renewal of same is made after March 31 the late fee is $10.00 in addition to the original cost, after June 30 the late fee is $15.00 in addition to the original cost, and after September 30, the late fee is $20.00 in addition to the original cost.
§ 21-4.1. Potentially dangerous dog – annual licensing and registration. [Added 8-11-2003 by Ord. No. 03-11]
Every person who shall own, keep or harbor any dog or dogs, either male or female, within the boundaries of the Borough of Merchantville who has been adjudicated to be a “potentially dangerous dog” by the Municipal Court of the Borough of Merchantville, or by any Court of competent jurisdiction within the State of New Jersey, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 4:19-24, shall apply for and procure from the Borough Clerk a license and official red metal registration tag for such dog and pay for the said license a fee of $700.00. Additionally, the applicant shall also pay any additional fee or fees imposed by statute for the benefit of a special fund or funds, pertaining to dogs, such fee or fees to be disposed of as provided by statute.
§ 21-5. Application for license.
The owner of any newly acquired dog of licensing age, or of any dog which attains licensing age, shall make application to the Borough Clerk for the license and registration tag for such dog within ten (10) days after such acquisition or age attainment.
§ 21-6. Dogs not licensed in the borough.
A. Any person who shall bring or cause to be brought into the borough any dog licensed in another state for the current year, and bearing a registration tag, and shall keep the same or permit the same to be kept within the borough for more than ninety (90) days shall immediately apply for a license and registration tag for each such dog.
B. Any person who shall bring or cause to be brought into the borough any unlicensed dog and keep the same or permit the same to be kept within the borough for a period of more than ten (10) days shall immediately apply for a license and registration tag for each such dog.
