Every year Remodeling magazine produces the Cost vs. Value Report, an annual survey that ranks home remodeling projects according to which ones give you the greatest return on your money. Every year the projects and percentages change base on the current trends of home interiors and exteriors. This year’s report shows the highest percentages of cost recouped on mostly exterior projects. As Realtor magazine points out, this proves the old-age real estate theory that first impression and curb appeal of your home are everything!
In our area, the Middle Atlantic Region, the following were the 3 highest ranked projects: Replacement of a mid-range steel entry door with a 97.2% return and Replacing your garage door with a midrange model with a 77.6% return – Both of these projects costing roughly in the $1200 range. The third project was replacing your exterior with upscale fiber cement siding will give you a 77.8%, but at a higher price range of about $13,000.
Another notable project was a Minor Kitchen Remodel (including cabinet refacing with new hardware, energy-efficient oven replacement, counter, sink and floor replacement). This brought a 68.3% cost recoup on roughly $23,000. Most people consider the Kitchen to be the most important room and the heart of the home.
