Christie proposes 1% hike in school aid

A year after deep cuts New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is proposing to slightly increase state subsidies for school budgets this year. The increases are equivalent to 1% of the districts’ 2009-10 budgets. Last year, districts saw aid cut by up to 5% of their 2009-10 budgets. The increase would mean and additional $60,882 in aid to Merchantville or $1,568,607 in total state aid for 2011-12.
