A new statelaw requires all electronic waste be separated from the regular trash collection and disposed of through an authorized recycler. The N.J. Electronic Waste Management Act, which took effect Jan. 1, 2011, prohibits dumping any e-waste such as TVs, computers, laptop computer and computer monitors in the state’s landfills or incinerators. The law does not cover cell phones, DVD and VCR players, game consoles and other electronic devices. After March 1, residents will have to take electronic waste to an approved drop off location. There are currently three locations for recycling e-waste.
Camden County will offer electronics recycling from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations: April 9 at the Camden County Public Works Complex, 2311 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold.
June 18 at Camden County College parking area behind the CIM Building, Peter Cheeseman Road, Blackwood. Oct. 22 at the Camden Count Public Works Complex, 2311 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold.
Other options are Goodwill Industries, an approved recycler who will accept computers and other electronic equipment at all of its retail and donation locations free of charge. Best Buy who accepts two items per day per household including TV’s, DVD players, computer monitors and cell phones. There is a $10 charge for TVs 32-inch and under, CRT’s, computer monitors and lap tops. In return, Best Buy will give a $10 Best Buy gift card to offset that cost.
