Helen K. Markowitz

Age 90, of Merchantville, NJ, and Royal Palm Beach, FL, died peacefully at home on Feb. 17, 2011. Predeceased by her loving husband, Nat, after 64 years of marriage. Helen leaves sons Michael Markowitz of Farmington, CT and David (Elizabeth) Markowitz of Merchantville, NJ. Grandmother of Jill (Raphael) Cohen and Jeffrey, Benjamin and Samuel Markowitz. Great-grandmother of Henry Noah Cohen. Sister-in-law of Gloria Maurer of Oceanside, NY and Dr. Sidney Shapiro of Glastonbury, CT.

Helen was an avid reader, a woman with an unending appreciation of beauty, a fabulous cook and always proud of her vegetable crop and flower gardens. Throughout her life she enjoyed painting. Her quick sense of humor was present to the end. Helen’s warmth and compassion were her trademark qualities realized by family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services Tues beginning 11:30 am Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sec 4, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. The family will return to the home of Michael Markowitz, Farmington, CT, and respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to The American Heart Association or the National Yiddish Book Center, Amherst, MA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
