Daylight savings 2026 starts this weekend so we’re almost at the time when many look forward to longer daylight hours, and many dread the lost hour of sleep we get during standard time. Daylight saving time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th. Daylight saving time became a national standard in 1966, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Uniform Time Act, which was enacted to conserve energy.

The thinking was that if it’s light out longer, you’ll need less time to use lights in your home. Despite repeated attempts over the years to stay permanently on daylight saving time, that still hasn’t happened. So get ready to spring forward!
