On January 21, 2012 two days shy of her 92nd birthday. Born in London and raised in Harrow, England. Connie graduated from Harrow Girls School and worked for the Norwich Union Life Insurance Society in London during WWII and the Blitz. She met her husband Hobie in 1943 while he was stationed in England as a U.S. Army cryptographer.
They were married on June 23, 1945 in the same Methodist Church in which they met. She came to Merchantville as a British war bride and soon became a U.S. citizen and lived her entire life in the States in Merchantville. She was a Cub Scout den mother, president of the Merchantville High School PTA, member of the executive board of the Pennsauken High School PTA, and volunteered with: West Jersey Hospital, Meals on Wheels and FISH. Connie was an avid Bridge player and played on numerous bridge clubs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville since 1946 where she sang in the Chancel Choir. After her children were raised, Connie worked alongside Hobie as the office manager at The Real Estate School in Haddonfield.
Connie is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Hobie and granddaughter Victoria. Survived by her sons Doug (Cindy), John (Lisa) and Andrew all of Merchantville; grandchildren Ryan (Karen), Pam, Ashley, Alex, Nick and Mike; great-grandchildren Amaya, Natalie and Gabriella. On Saturday, Jan. 28 Family and Friends are invited to the viewing from 11am -12:30pm followed by a service at 12:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville, 10 W. Maple Ave., Merchantville, NJ 08109.
