This tax season, hundreds of low-income New Jersey citizens will receive a real break from Rutgers–Camden students who are providing free assistance in preparing income tax returns. Thanks to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Rutgers School of Law–Camden, students have been trained to help in the preparation of federal and New Jersey state tax returns. The program offers access to these free services on the Rutgers–Camden Campus.
The Rutgers–Camden law school VITA program is offered on the Rutgers–Camden Campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. January 31 through April 11 (excluding February 15 and March 13, 14), and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon on February 4, 11, 18, 25, March 3 and 24, along with April 7. Each session will be held in West Conference Room A on the lower level of the Campus Center, located on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden Campus. Clients are required to bring photo ID for themselves; Social Security cards for all taxpayers and dependents to be listed on the return; all proof of income and taxes paid, as well as deductible expenses; and the checkbook for the direct deposit account in order to verify refund account information.
