There are 140 L’Arche communities in the world and 17 of those are in the United States. L’Arche communities strive to serve as a sign of hope and to model mutual relationship and friendship in a world that often rejects people who are weak. Friends of L’Arche New Jersey is committed to opening homes in Camden County
in which people with and without intellectual disabilities come to live together as family.
Merchantville has been chosen to be part of this emerging community model. And to that end Friends of L’Arche New Jersey recently purchased the former “Between the Covers” property at 35 West Maple Avenue. Soon a house of rare books will be a home to a family of extraordinary individuals. Our community looks forward to welcoming these new residents.
